“Willard, take Brenda’s hands in yours.”
He took her hands and her nerves calmed instantly; he always had that effect on her.
Do you take this woman to be your lawfully wedded wife—”
A train came around the bend and drowned out the rest of what the preacher said. Willard cocked his head toward the man to hear better, but the obnoxious train seemed to become louder, then the whistle blew.
“—do part?”
“What?” came Willard’s answer.
Brenda’s eyes darted from Frank to Willard thinking Frank would repeat the vows he’d said now that the train had pasted; instead, he turned to her.
